Hamline-Midway

Recently (Spring 2007) featured in MN Parent as a top choice family-friendly neighborhood, Hamline – Midway has become quite the popular area. Its gain in popularity over the last 5-8 years was in part a result of the high housing costs in the neighborhoods to the south (Merriam Park, Mac-Groveland, Highland Park, etc). The demand for central location, proximity to colleges, early 20th century homes and affordable housing is met with Hamline – Midway.

The Midway is defined by its commercial corridor which runs along University Avenue, connecting the two downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul, hence the nickname Midway. In addition, the area is home to several public and private schools and a handful of parks. The housing stock consists mostly of 1-1/2 and two story homes built in the early 1900′s to 1920′s, complete with Arts and Crafts detailing and wonderful woodwork.
