The area known to real estate agents as Nokomis is actually a large collection of smaller neighbhorhoods surrounding the shores of Lake Nokomis, the last lake in the City of Minneapolis Chain of Lakes. Boundaries of the Nokomis neighborhood include the city limits to the south, the Light Rail to the east, I-35W on the West and 38th Street on the north.

The Nokomis neighbhorhoods, Wenonah, Keewaydin, Minnehaha and Morris Park, are perfect first time buyer neighbhorhoods, with lots of property starting as low as $175,000. Much of the housing stock was built post-World War II, particularly as you move to the southern edge of the area closer to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.

In addition to the appeal of Lake Nokomis and the fun it provides, Nokomis residents also get to take advantage of the creek, Minnehaha Creek that is! Flowing towards the falls in the big Minnehaha Regional Park, the Creek with its many walking and running paths, little bridges and green spaces is a favorite place in Nokomis. Residents on the eastern border of Nokomis get to take advantage of 3 Light Rail stations, making for easy access to downtown, the airport and the Mall of America. If you are a fan of local author, Lorna Landvik, you'll know that the Nokomis area is the setting for her warm and funny novel "Patty Jane's House of Curl."
